Clifton was a township in the ecclesiastical parish of Eccles in the hundred of Salford in Lancashire. [5] In 1866 Clifton became a separate civil parish, [6] on 1 April 1933 the parish was abolished to form Swinton and Pendlebury, part also went to Kearsley [7] and Clifton became part of the Municipal Borough of Swinton and Pendlebury and Kearsley Urban District.
