Thùy was born and raised in the commune of Thiền Lâm, Tĩnh Gia District, Thanh Hóa Province, Vietnam. [3] When she was young, she used to sell rice cakes on coach buses to assist her family. Despite financial struggles, her family continued to supported her education. [4] Thùy graduated from Tĩnh Gia 1 High School in 2010. [5]

Giang Thành is a rural district of the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. It was established in 2009 from 5 communes in northern Kiên Lương district. As of 2009 the district had a population of 28,910. [1] The district covers an area of 407.443 km 2. The capital of the district is under construction.
