China Airlines Flight 642 was a flight that crashed at Hong Kong (Chek Lap Kok) International Airport on 22 August 1999. It was operating from Bangkok (Bangkok International Airport, now renamed as Don Mueang International Airport ) to Taipei with a stopover in Hong Kong.

February 7, 1980: China Airlines Flight 009, operated by a Boeing 747-200B (B-1866), suffered a tailstrike while landing at Kai Tak Airport, the plane was ferried back unpressurized back to Taiwan to be repaired on the same day. The incident aircraft would later suffer a mid-air breakup while flying as China Airlines Flight 611. [citation needed]
