Punjabi University is a collegiate state public university located in Patiala, Punjab, India. It was established on 30 April 1962 and is only the second university in the world to be named after a language, after Hebrew University of Israel .
Punjabi University Guru Kashi College is the oldest institute running in this campus, which was founded by Sant Fateh Singh in year 1964. [4] Punjabi University has taken over management control of this college on 20 December 1995 and later it was declared as a constituent college of university in 2001. [5]

Its foundation stone was laid by Dr Dharam Vira, ICS, the then Governor of Punjab on 21 September 1966 and the first academic session commenced in July 1967.
