Carlisle Pike (the old Route 11 and the main east-west route through Sporting Hill) and the Beltway interchange a short distance west of the village, which has multiple retail stores and restaurants, including in the Hampden Town Centre. Sporting Hill is served by the Mechanicsburg post office with the zip code of 17050. [1]
Mechanicsburg is a borough in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The borough is eight miles (13 km) west of Harrisburg. It is part of the Harrisburg–Carlisle metropolitan statistical area. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 8,981. [3] The 2020 census reported the population at 9,311.
Northeast of Carlisle in Middlesex Township, US 11 has interchanges with the Pennsylvania Turnpike , and then I-81 roughly one mile (1.6 km) later. The stretch of US 11 between I-76 and I-81 is known as the "Miracle Mile" since it contains plenty of traveler services including restaurants, gas stations, lodging, truck stops, and shops. [ 1 ]
By this time, the current route east of Mechanicsburg was an unpaved road, with a small paved section to the west of the Yellow Breeches Creek. [5] PA 114 was designated in 1928 to run from US 11 in Hogestown south and east to Lisburn, where an unnumbered, unpaved road continued east to PA 24 (now PA 382).
