In May 2000, West Virginia Governor Cecil Underwood purchased 25 acres (100,000 m 2) of Blackwater Canyon for $50,000 an acre and added it to Blackwater Falls State Park. Allegheny Wood Products , the timber company that owns about half of the Blackwater Canyon today, donated an additional 100 acres (0.40 km 2 ).

Canaan Valley (locally / k ə ˈ n eɪ n /) is a large bathtub-shaped upland valley in northeastern Tucker County, West Virginia, USA.Within it are extensive wetlands and the headwaters of the Blackwater River which spills out of the valley at Blackwater Falls.
The Elakala Falls are a series of four waterfalls of Shays Run [1] as it descends into the Blackwater Canyon in West Virginia.They are within Blackwater Falls State Park [3] and are quite popular among photographers, with the ease of access for the first waterfall, and the relatively low traffic of the other waterfalls in the series.
After passing the town of Davis, it falls 62 feet (19 m) over Blackwater Falls and enters the eight-mile (13 km) long Blackwater Canyon in Blackwater Falls State Park. [9] Here it forms whitewater rapids of Class IV-V+ [10] and collects the eight-mile (13 km) long North Fork Blackwater River, [11] which flows past the town of Thomas. [1]
Bear Rocks is known for its cool climate, alpine appearance and northern wildlife. Strong prevailing winds bring clouds from the west. While rising to clear the ridge of the Allegheny Front they cool, causing mist and rain totaling more than 60 inches (1,500 mm) per year.
