The club was established in 1991 as the Tacoma Rockets, playing in Tacoma, Washington. [1] The team played four seasons in Tacoma under head coach Marcel Comeau, who was named the league and the Canadian Hockey League's coach-of-the-year for 1992–93, although the team won only one playoff round.
