The first train to run on the line began on July 10, 1865. The railroad faced push back from locals when proposition for the railroad to extend north for Napa City to Calistoga was planned. In 1866, two elections were held for whether or not for the public to fund the railroad, and twice it was defeated.
The San Francisco, Napa and Calistoga Railway, later briefly reorganized as the San Francisco and Napa Valley Railroad, was an electric interurban railroad in the U.S. state of California. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] In conjunction with the Monticello Steamship Company, the railway offered a combined rail- and ferry-service called the "Napa Valley Route."
The Napa Valley Railroad is owned by the Napa Valley Wine Train, a dining/excursion service. The Napa Wine train offers a variety of different experience packages some including: wine tasting including dinner, rides with Santa during Christmas time, special offers showcasing some of the valley's new releases.
