The atmosphere of Earth is layered, and each layer has unique characteristics. The troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, and thermosphere are the four layers that make up the Earth's atmosphere, which is differentiated by temperature.
Here are a couple of worksheets to help you learn and practice the layers of our Earth’s atmosphere, their altitudes, as well as the other important landmarks in the atmosphere.
The five basic layers of the atmosphere. Download Image. Exosphere. This is the outermost layer of the atmosphere. It extends from about 375 miles (600 km) to 6,200 miles (10,000 km) above the earth. In this layer, atoms and molecules escape into space and satellites orbit the earth.
The atmosphere is composed of six distinct layers. Each layer gets thinner as you travel from the bottom to outer space. There is no clear boundary between outer space and atmosphere. This series of worksheets examines the function and composition of each of the layers of Earth's atmosphere.
Atmospheric Layers. Earth’s atmosphere is held in place by gravity. The atmosphere protects life on the planet by absorbing ultraviolet radiation and by regulating temperature.
Troposphere. Layer closest to the earth. People, plants & animals exist here. Clouds, storms, precipitation are in this layer. Temperature decreases (gets colder) as altitude increases.
Use the chart on the next page, or grid paper, to label the layers of the atmosphere. Then draw or write where different things can be found in the atmosphere. For a bonus, add other things not listed below. Layers of the Atmosphere.
