Basically a series 70, GI guide rod 1911 with a stainless upper and an aluminum lower. This model has just rolled out for 2023, model/sku 6792. Building on the huge success of their lightweight commander 1911's, this full sized is priced on the low end of Ruger MSRP's. I got it for $624 + tax, but I have found it a bit cheaper by $50 or so online.
With that said, if you are looking for a good entry 1911 or a 1911 to "build on" the Colts or Springfield GI models would be a good starting point. You can then add on parts from Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, Ed Brown or any other 1911 parts maker youd like. 1911's are great gun. They just require a bit more attention and care than the polymer stuff.

The 1911 pistol is a Colt design that has been in production for over a century and has earned its reputation among civilian, military, and police as being a reliable, hard-hitting weapon that many folks happily carry every day to protect their lives or the lives of others. A good 1911 is a true joy to shoot.

If I had to go into an unknown combat zone, I would take a Glock 17. Sig Sauer P938, Sig Sauer 1911 Emperor Fastback Scorpion Carry, Sig Sauer P227.

The original 45 Win Mag 1911 style pistol has a much heavier slide to deal with the added energy - without a muzzle brake. To your point, the Sig P365 magazine/grip angle would be my starting point for every new pistol design. It's absolutely the best feeling grip of any pistol I've held, including double stack 1911's or 2011s. In fact, the grip width of the double stack 1911s/2011s is my only reason for not owning one.
