The house, built in c.1820s to c.1840s, is a one-story dog trot log house, with additional shed porches and enclosed porch rooms.
Secondary characteristics of the dogtrot house include placement of the chimneys, staircases, and porches. Chimneys were almost always located at each gable end of the house, with each serving one of the two main rooms. If the house was 1½ or the rarer two stories, the necessary staircase was usually at least partially enclosed or boxed in.
The porches are held up by log posts. The cabin's floor is made of fir planking, and the roof is corrugated sheet-metal. The pantry has a double-wall with sawdust insulation in between the inner and outer walls. [1] There are two sheds on the site. There is a large tool shed just behind the cabin.
Other styles include Type B, a rectangular, gable roofed plan with closely spaced entrance doors; Type D, a one-story plan with a central chimney and steeper gable roof; Type E, an L-shaped structure with a shed porch on the front; and Type H, a 1 + 1 ⁄ 2-story single-family design with a gable roof and shed roof dormer.
The farmstead includes two farmhouses and their associated outbuildings. The McLemore farmhouse is a log cabin, of single pen type, built in 1864, with a shed-type front porch and additional shed rooms. The Sharpe farmhouse is a one-story wood-frame house built in 1903. [2]
Probably a later addition of about 1870 is the one story, three bay "cottage" adjoined on the rear, its square columned porch with plain bannisters faces east. To the rear of this two room addition and to that of the main portion of the house is a continuous L-shaped shed porch.

The front facade features a plain tetra-style front porch with squared supports and a shed roof. [2]
