Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University (abbreviated as Untirta) is the state university in the province of Banten, Indonesia. The main campus is in Serang Regency, the faculty of engineering is at Cilegon, and Faculty of Education most of it is located in Ciwaru Serang. Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University was established by the Tirtayasa Foundation.

Tirtayasa (1631–1695), complete stylized name Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa, also known as Ageng and Abulfatah Agung, [1] was the sixth sultan of Banten (on Java in modern Indonesia) and reigned during the kingdom's golden age.
Ma'ali's son, Prince Surya, the future Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa, was chosen to be his successor. A year later in 1651, old Sultan Abu al-Mufakhir died, thus at the age of 25, Sultan Ageng replacing his grandfather and rose to become the sole sovereign of Banten.
The institute was founded with the support and assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), who sent a team in 1985 to assess the need for aid. Led by Prof. Y. Naito from Tokyo Institute of Technology, the team conducted an initial assessment to the area that resulting agreement for the development of the campus.
