The language is easy to pun, riddle, jest or joke in, and lends itself easily to double entendres, veiled meanings and subtlety. Gnomish has a wide variety of vowel and nasal sounds, including six distinct sounds that transliterate roughly as “N”- to a gnome, the sounds at the start of knurl, gnome and name are distinct and different.

One of my favorite PCs was a Rock Gnome Eldritch Knight. The +2 Int bonus boosted the magic side for spell attacks and Save DV, whilst the +1 Con hgve a nice little bump to an already very hardy subclass.
Oh I love these, basically allow my players to create any 3 they want so long as they're appropriate in power level and theme. I have a list somewhere, but these three were from the gnome chef, Wiggin Burgenpuff: A timed alarm (1-hour mechanical kitchen timer) Burgenpuff's Automated Stirring Spoon (stirs while you get distracted elsewhere)
Personally I'd go Forest Gnome Barbarian over Rock, but the advantage of this is Gnome Cunning, combined with proficiency and Danger Sense, you will have either Advantage or proficiency in every saving throw in at least some situations, and all this is PHB only. Your basically why Yuan Ti is OP by level 2.

Based on the existence of dragonborn, it seems that genetics in dnd is in fact some type of magic and that this type of magic is easily manipulated.
Gnome : Halfling :: Elf : Human They had the fey origin, came from the Feywild (plane of elves and nature and centaurs and stuff). Seriously into illusions, glamour, and trickery. Halflings are more like generic short adventurers. They can be anything.... Just, y'know... The short version.
My forest gnome is named Iris Perle Tully Moyra Lulu Ningel Gigglefoot Muddle Greenleaf, but you can call her Moyra Ningel Greenleaf for short. She introduces herself to each new character this way. She gets super excited when meeting other gnomes and is visibly disappointed and sad for them if they have fewer than 4 names.
A gnome will stand out in a crowd because they're different. A halfling is invisible because they are beneath people's notice. Gnomes disappear using spectacle. Halflings have to be spectacular to get noticed. I tend to view Gnomes, Men, Dwarvs, Giants, and Halflings as cousin races.
Corundruby: Beneath Galena Mountains (near Moonsea, Deep Gnome city) Vault of the Star Ruby: Temple-city dedicated to Callarduran Smoothhands. (Beneath Sea of Fallen Stars, Deep Gnomes) Forharn: Hidden mining city of rock gnomes & some dwarves (Hidden in White Peaks, north of Whitehorn) All of these are from Demihuman Deities 2E.
