Choose whatever invocations you like and fit your character concept the best. In my experience, 5e works quite well with suboptimal characters (let alone ones that are not perfectly optimized). We have a Paladin with an 8 Charisma that works really well. My suggestion would actually be to play the bard straight up without multiclassing.
'Cause I'm as free as a Bard now, And this Bard you can not change. Kord knows, I can't change. (slide lute solo) Bye, bye, its been a sweet love. Though this feeling I can't change. But please don't take it badly, 'Cause Kord knows I'm to blame. But, if I stayed here with you girl, Things just couldn't be the same. Cause I'm as free as a Bard now,
If Human, I'd go for Agonizing Blast and Devil's Sight for the darkvision. If you have darkvision (e.g. Half Elf), I'd take Armor of Shadows instead for the +1 AC. It's a nice boost for a Lore Bard (assuming you have a decent dex already). IMHO don't think the 3rd level Warlock is really worth it for a Lore Bard.
Intrigue, framing, deception, entrance in parties, you name it. Many will say that a one-level dip in wizard or bard or even the Arcane Trickster is better, and it could be, but in the long run I'd much rather get a capstone or another archetype than that. * III: The Believer Spells' class: Cleric Cantrips: Guidance, Spare the Dying/Thaumaturgy
Our group has been playing D&D 3.5 (among other RPG's) for many years, and our DM will soon be starting up a new D&D campaign using 5th Ed. (We never looked at 4th.) This will be our group's first attempt at 5e. My first idea was to play a Bard, but am considering now cross-classing with Monk...
Having 12,14,14,16 for your 4 highest stats and a bonus feat works very well. The best Bard race and really the only competitive alternative to the half elf bard. Dragonborn: More suited to the Valorious bard the Dragonborn still make a good bard as resistance to an energy type is useful and the breath weapon is kind of like a free level 1 AoE ...
(I think I have decided on Lore Bard btw) Lore Bard doesn't seem to be able to take much of a beating at all. At D8 and Light Armour, he is as squishy as a Rogue. I can see myself only getting an AC of 15 ( S.Leather and 2+ Dex) Two handed longsword seems nice though. Valor Bard, however, gets Scale Mail, Shield, and still Dex bonus.
O-Bard - The original Bard class from the PHB2, used when it is necessary to distinguish it from its subclass, the Skald. PP - Paragon path RBA - Ranged basic attack THP - Temporary hit points. Wayfarer - A Bard who took the feat Bardic Wayfarer, generally with the intent to optimize around teleporting. Bard Taxis are an extreme example of this ...
UPDATE: Post re-formatted and changed to reflect some big changes Hey everyone, I have an idea for a paladin/hexblade (and possibly bard) build and would like some advice I am thinking of going with Mounted Combatant feat along with a lance and a shield using CHA as my attack modifier using...
