The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (commonly shortened to just The James) is part of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and is one of the National Cancer Institute's Comprehensive Cancer Centers. [3] It is named after the founder Arthur G. James and is located in Columbus, Ohio, United States.

The first clinical trials in the United States involving mesenchymal stem cells occurred between 1996 and 2000 at the University Hospitals of Cleveland, while the hospital was also responsible for the first adult umbilical cord transplant in 1997, and the first adult stem-cell clinical trials in the country in 2003. Ohio State was the first medical center in the United States to complete a heart bypass using minimally invasive robotics technology and the first to insert a digital pacemaker in a patient. The hospital gained its most distinctive modern feature in 1971 – a tall cylindrical tower with a Modernist design. The 16-story tower was designed with all private rooms, unique in 1971. In 1992, Quorum Health Group purchased it, renaming it Park Medical Center. The Ohio State University (OSU) acquired it for about $13 million in 1999.
The pandemic affected the city of Columbus, Ohio, as Ohio's stay-at-home order shuttered all nonessential businesses, and caused event cancellations into 2021. The shutdown led to protests at the Ohio Statehouse, the state capitol building. The COVID-19 pandemic muted activity in Columbus, especially in its downtown core, from 2020 to 2022.
