Gannon University Field opened during the spring of 2001. It was renamed McConnell Family Stadium on September 11, 2015, in honor of a donation made by Gannon University Class of 1970 alumnus Dennis McConnell. The Gannon University women's lacrosse team was the first to play on the field. [1] [2]
Gannon is a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in NCAA Division II. Gannon offers 19 Division II scholarship-granting varsity sports, that includes nine men's and women's teams. Originally, Matt Berkey wanted to become a professional baseball player. He even had a chance to take baseball scholarships from colleges, but he turned those opportunities down because of the distance from his hometown.
