The Primary Chronicle, shortened from the common Russian Primary Chronicle [b] (Church Slavonic: Повѣсть времѧньныхъ лѣтъ, romanized: Pověstĭ vremęnĭnyxŭ lětŭ, [c] commonly transcribed Povest' vremennykh let (PVL), [a] lit.
