Ladder line is an older, simpler form of parallel-wire line, often called open wire line. The configuration looks like a rope ladder , hence the name. It can either be purchased already made by a cable company, or home-made ; the construction is easy, though tedious, and originally all radio amateurs made their own open wire line.
The LapLink cable connects five output pins of a parallel port to five input pins on the opposing port for each direction. Due to the lack of internal timing in the parallel ports, synchronization is implemented via software handshaking: four pins are used for data transfer and one is used for synchronization.
Parallel versus serial communication. In data transmission, parallel communication is a method of conveying multiple binary digits simultaneously using multiple conductors. This contrasts with serial communication, which conveys only a single bit at a time; this distinction is one way of characterizing a communications link.
The method for making stubs is similar to the method for using Lecher lines for crude frequency measurement, but it is 'working backwards'. One method recommended in the RSGB's radiocommunication handbook is to take an open-circuited length of transmission line wired in parallel with the feeder delivering signals from an aerial. By cutting the ...
To do this, parallel ports require multiple data lines in their cables and port connectors and tend to be larger than contemporary serial ports, which only require one data line. There are many types of parallel ports, but the term has become most closely associated with the printer port or Centronics port found on most personal computers from ...
An IEEE 1284 36-pin female on a circuit board. In the 1970s, Centronics developed the now-familiar printer parallel port that soon became a de facto standard.Centronics had introduced the first successful low-cost seven-wire print head [citation needed], which used a series of solenoids to pull the individual metal pins to strike a ribbon and the paper.
"Y" cables may be used to allow using another serial port to monitor all traffic on one direction. A serial line analyzer is a device similar to a logic analyzer but specialized for RS-232's voltage levels, connectors, and, where used, clock signals; it collects, stores, and displays the data and control signals, allowing developers to view ...
The current in a series circuit goes through every component in the circuit. Therefore, all of the components in a series connection carry the same current. A series circuit has only one path through which its current can flow. Opening or breaking a series circuit at any point causes the entire circuit to "open" or stop operating.
