First, the numbering system has no basis in history or Crayola's own usage. It's based entirely on the colors listed in alphabetical order, and as such is superfluous in sorting. Perhaps it would be better for the colors to be shown in order of hue, rather than mixed by alphabetical order. That would make it easier to compare related colors.
