Cucu Suryaningsih or known her under stage name Evie Tamala (born 23 June 1969) is a popular Indonesian dangdut singer-songwriter. [1] Evie became popular mainly because of her singles Selamat Malam , Cinta Ketok Magic , and Dokter Cinta .
The rising popularity of K-pop gave rise to a second wave or generation of boy bands and girl groups in Indonesia. [20] [21] Several K-pop-influenced groups emerged from this wave, one of the earliest being G-String, [22] but the most notable are SM*SH, CJR and Cherrybelle. Other popular groups include 7Icons, XO-IX, Hitz, and Dragonboyz.
Orkes Melayu singer Ellya Khadam switched to dangdut in the 1970s, and by 1972, she was the number-one artist in Indonesia. Her success, along with that of Rhoma Irama, meant that by 1975, 75 per cent of all recorded music in Indonesia was of the dangdut genre, with pop bands such as Koes Plus adopting the style.
