A nurse practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice registered nurse and a type of mid-level practitioner. [1] [2] NPs are trained to assess patient needs, order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests, diagnose disease, prescribe medications and formulate treatment plans.
From 1997 - 2005 the NPACE peer-reviewed professional journal, Clinical Excellence for Nurse Practitioners, was published first by Churchill Livingstone [2] and then by Springer Publishing Company. [3] NPACE celebrated the beginning of its 25th year at the Boston primary care conference in November 2007.
