I just purchased a 2010 Highlander Limited with the added (& very expensive) Navigation System Package and I am totally disappointed in it. Not the vehicle, the sound system and the navigation system. The Nav is very awkward, not user friendly at all and antiquated in design.
In this day and age when you can get a tiny 64GB secure digital hard drive, such a limitation makes no sense. The Garmin also let me change the navigation voice to a male Austrailian accent that my wife (the primary driver of the car) appreciated more. No such luck with the Toyota navigation system (at least that I could find).

The Highlander Navigation system is a DVD based touch screen system that does provide verbal commands but does not have any voice recognition capabilities. I have only had a few days to play with it, but having a Nav system in my other car, I personally would not purchase a new automobile without one. It's not inexpensive though - $2,000 option.

The DVD map disc should cost around $250 - $300. Shop around at another Toyota dealer for 00125-DVD05-CY. The part number on the DVD map disc is 86271-33034. Lastly, no other software will work with the Toyota navigation system.
The whole point of getting a navigation unit like this is for convenience. It is not convenient and it is far from safe. As another post mentioned, if you have to pull over on the freeway to enter data into the system, it is far more dangerous than operating the unit while driving. The safety concern argument is very weak.

I have a 2005 Highlander Limited and would like to disable the annoying chirp that sounds when activating/deactivating the alarm with the remote. Is this possible? I would also like to disable the beep that occurs every time I press a button for my stereo/navigation system.
