When you connect the charger to dual batteries you must connect it to the positive terminal of one battery and the negative terminal of the other. I ran a #10 wire hidden along the front where the battery cable is from the drivers side battery over to the Battery Tender which I mounted on the pass side fender well next to the battery.

I am using a Battery Tender Junior on my 17 GTI Sport and it works fine. It came with two different ways to connect directly to the battery, one uses the alligator clips and the other has eyelets that are secured to the battery posts under the battery cover. The cord to the Tender goes out the front of the car and I close the hood.
My truck sits alot so I thought, why not wire in a battery tender to the existing block heater wiring. So I sourced the parts and found my location to mount and it turned out really well and I thought I would share. "Marinco Mod") you can be sure it has a battery tender and an engine preheater. Battery tenders (and battery preheaters) consumes very little power but need to run 24/7 for best effect; an engine preheater consumes great gobs of power but needs to run for only 2-3 hours. The Schumacher Electric SE-1-12S 1.5-Amp On-Board Battery Maintainer comes with a Bracket which mounts by sitting inder the Battery. I've used one on my truck for 10 years. Run the plug out with the Block Heater and get a three way adapter to plug both in - You're set $40
Disable bluetooth completely, turn off radio, set the light switch to off and turn the climate control off. That's even with having the maintainer/trickle charger - just pick up a battery tender Jr at Lowe's, AutoZone, etc and return it after - the entire install process for ECU & TCU took about 40 minutes for me.
My 7.5 35,980 miles. I’ve not used start stop much and tried to get the OEM battery to last as long as possible. Car started to throw low voltage codes , rough idle and misfiring. Swapped the battery in the parking lot , used OBD11 to code it. So far so good. 239.00$ have it on a battery tender now , to reach full charge. Model H6-AGM 70 ah.
Apparently, these come on new VW's to keep the battery charged while they sit waiting to be shipped. I've purchased 2 of them, one plugs into the OBD-II plug and the other plugs into the cig. lighter. I gave one to a friend for his sailboat and I use the other to keep the battery up on one of my vehicles that sits for months at a time.
