Keep us posted on your results. 50%. RH is a good setting. Regards TB. Bear Rules: Keep our home <50% RH summer, controls mites/mold and very comfortable. Provide 60-100 cfm of fresh air when occupied to purge indoor pollutants and keep window dry during cold weather. T-stat setup/setback +8 hrs. saves energy.

Do a return from the open space to the Ultra-Aire XT105H with the dehumidifier supply connected to the a/c supply. The moisture will spread throughout the home as long as doors are open or the either a/c is cycling. If install space is a problem, consider the Ultra-Aire 98H. Either should handle the space.
1a) Use the alternative method, just pulling in air from the basement furnace room and distributing the warmer dry air throughout the house. (this is how it is setup now during my demo described above) 1b) Use the alternative method, but pull the air from the existing returns on the furnace pulling in air from all over the house.

During high cooling loads, a properly setup a/c should maintain the desired %RH like 50%RH. The cooling coil should be <45^F which will remove 2-3 lbs. of moisture per hour per ton of capacity.
Portable dehumidifier is in the basement. The humidity levels stay around 40% in the basement and 42-45% on the 1st floor with the portable unit constantly running. However, the upstairs still gets quite humid pushing 50%+ at times. The HVAC units are Rheem.
Of course maintaining a fresh air change in 4-5 hours increases the amount of latent cooling or dehumidification needed to maintain <50%RH. A properly setup a/c should provide ,50%RH during peak sensible loads. Expect an a/c operating +50% of the hour to remove 7-8 lbs. or a gallon of moisture per hour.

1st option is a unit that matches the ducts capacity. A whole house dehumidifier is a good solution possibly taking as much as a 1/2-Ton capacity off the main unit. Next is supplemental A/C such as a mini split. Sounds like there all guessing with few measurements to come up with a real solution. R I P Icemeister.
