Starvation, disease, malnutrition, and exposure killed more than 2,500 American soldiers by the end of February 1778.

In 1909, the exterior of the office/sleeping tent was purchased by Reverend W. Herbert Burk for the Valley Forge Museum of American History, predecessor to the Valley Forge Historical Society. [8] It was exhibited in a museum on the grounds of the 1777–1778 Valley Forge encampment. [9]
