- I've had the iPhone 13 Pro since June 2024 - battery health showing as 100% [more than 100% on Coconut Battery] - I don't have a benchmark [battery, performance] of iOS 17 vs iOS 18 since I was using iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOS 16.7 prior to switching to iPhone 13 Pro running iOS 18.0 [since public release]
I have a Samsung Katana, an HTC Touch Pro, an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 6 Plus, Google Pixel 3a XL, an iPhone 6s Plus, an iPhone 11 Pro Max and a 6th Gen iPad. The 11 Pro Max is my current daily use phone. Just because all the other devices stopped being supported by Apple doesn't mean I threw them out.
I have Wi-Fi calling and SMS forwarding enabled so the LTE iPad was doing everything. COVID-related store closures made it difficult to get the battery replaced. Very glad when the iPhone SE 2020 was released. My iPhone SE 2020 is going on 2 years old now and is down to 86%. Need to charge it twice a day now.
For now, even though I Pre-Ordered the iPhone 12 Pro in Graphite, I still really want to try the iPhone 12 Mini in Red, but I'm worried from the marketing pics that it's a lighter shade of red than the iPhone 11 from last year.
Even if they cut iPhone 11 out from iOS 19 next year, your daughters will still be able to use them until 2026 without any major issues (all the apps will still work, etc.). As a budget friendly option, afterwards you could look into the new 6.1” (larger) iPhone SE models, rumoured to launch in the first half of next year.
The 13 Mini vs 12 Mini has a better battery life, brighter screen, smaller notch, other software features. Theoretical battery life of 11Pro vs 13 Mini isn't too dissimilar. Buying used however you may want to factor in the costs of a replacement battery into your budget. For your use case, I'd remove the 12 Mini entirely from your list.

The trouble is, I don't know enough about cameras to judge the difference between the camera setup on my current iPhone 11, the current iPhone 16, and the expected SE4. I was hoping some experts out there might have some advice. For example, will a single-lens 48 MP camera be better than the 2-lens 12MP camera setup on the iPhone 11?
Today I turned on my Mini for the first time in 2 days and after 2 hours of use, the Messages app on my iPad still were 2 days old and had synced none of the messages since Monday night. I has to manually sync my iMessages to iCloud on my iPhone and then do that again on the iPad to finally have the messages show up. This was never an issue ...
Both the iPhone 15/Plus and Pro/Max are 480 Hz for those wondering. Last year's iPhone 14/Plus and Pro/Max were 60 Hz and 240 Hz respectively, so this is a big increase.
