    Cicely Tyson played the first Black female lead character on TV in 1962 IIRC, and Diahann Carroll of course did "Julia" later in the decade.     In the end, it’s a mostly silly story depending on predictable “bombshell” soap opera plot devices. I read in the reviews it is based on an airport paperback type novel and that is exactly what the movie is. It feels weirdly old-fashioned, like something from the 70s or 80s, and is pro-Catholic (the “good” Catholics win via fluke).
