The Dandy was a Scottish children's comic magazine published by the Dundee based publisher DC Thomson. [3] The first issue was printed in December 1937, making it the world's third-longest running comic, after Il Giornalino (cover dated 1 October 1924) and Detective Comics (cover dated March 1937).
Like The Dandy, its name is from a Low-led DC Thomson office party called The DB Club (The Dandy Beano Club). [15] DC Thomson had several office party clubs that hosted different types of staff gatherings to choose from (e.g. The Prancers would hike hills), but Low's DB Club preferred playing golf and dining throughout Dundee.
