The Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) was established by the Royal Decree No. 31/2006, [1] [2] issued on 03 Rabai-I, 1427 H, corresponding to April 2, 2006. It is an independent body located in Muscat , Sultanate of Oman .
This is a list of hospitals in Oman. There are 59 hospitals in Oman and 897 medical centres, dispensaries, and clinics. Only 10 hospitals are private, and the rest are government hospitals. [1] Prior to 1958, there were only two hospitals in Oman, the Knox Memorial Hospital and another hospital partially financed by the Sultan of Oman.
Recently an extended health centre (polyclinic) has come up within the Sultan Qaboos hospital campus, which houses OPDs of multiple specialties. A well maintained canteen caters to patients, visitors and staff. There is a Directorate building which houses the administrative departments, besides a nurses quarter and a guest house.
Dr. Al Sabti was blessed by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, to be honoured with GCC Medal in Civil Service and Administrative Development, on May 1, 2019. [15] He was also conferred by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Oman Civil Order (3rd class) in November 2015 along with other Excellencies, in appreciation to their active role in performing national duties. Oman now has very low rate of once common communicable diseases such as measles and typhoid. Due to rapidly increasing incomes and changing lifestyles and diet, the levels of non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes are an increasing problem. The hospitals in Oman generally provide a high quality of health care.
