In February 2014, Kublai Khan signed to Artery Recordings. [9] On April 29, 2014, the band released their debut full-length album Balancing Survival and Happiness. The title refers to Xanadu, the site of the Mongolian emperor Kublai Khan's summer palace. The musical opened on Broadway in 2007 and ran for over 500 performances.
