Nomos were an Irish traditional music band during the 1990s from Cork. The group formed in 1990 and consisted of Niall Vallely on concertina, Vince Milne on fiddle, Frank Torpey on bodhran, Gerry McKee on bouzouki, and Eoin Coughlan on vocals and bass.
In Spillane's early career he was involved with several bands but most notably were Nomos and The Stargazers. [1] Playing with whistle player Noel Shine, Spillane spent several years playing with the local jazz vocal group The Stargazers. It was at this time he studied in UCC obtaining a degree in Irish and English.

The nomos (Greek: νόμος), also nome, is a genre of ancient Greek music, either solo instrumental or for voice accompanied by an instrument, characterized by a style of great complexity. It came to be associated with virtuoso performers.
Nomos Alpha (Greek: Νόμος α΄) is a piece for solo cello composed by Iannis Xenakis in 1965, commissioned by Radio Bremen for cellist Siegfried Palm, and dedicated to mathematicians Aristoxenus of Tarentum, Évariste Galois, and Felix Klein. [1]
The band toured in support of the album, with what would end up being their final live show to date taking place on September 23, 2016 in Toronto. On December 29, 2016, Somos announced via their Instagram that they would be taking an indefinite break but promised fans that it was not a permanent end to the band.
