Color symbolism in art, literature, and anthropology is the use of color as a symbol in various cultures and in storytelling. There is great diversity in the use of colors and their associations between cultures [ 1 ] and even within the same culture in different time periods. [ 2 ]
Previously most color science work had been split between journals with broader or partially overlapping focus such as the Journal of the Optical Society of America (JOSA), Photographic Science and Engineering (1957–1984), and the Journal of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (renamed Coloration Technology in 2001).
Color theory, or more specifically traditional color theory, is a historical body of knowledge describing the behavior of colors, namely in color mixing, color contrast effects, color harmony, color schemes and color symbolism. [1] Modern color theory is generally referred to as color science.
The society hosts its Annual Meeting as well as Special Topics Meetings. In addition, it participates in meetings of other societies. The Annual Meeting includes meetings of the Project Committees and sessions of three Interest Groups: Fundamental & Applied Color Research; Industrial Application of Color; and; Art, Design & Psychology.
