The usual Orthodox view is that St. James is the son of Joseph by a previous marriage -- thus, older than Jesus. The usual Catholic view is that he's the cousin of Jesus -- no way of knowing for sure who's older or younger. The usual Protestant view is that he's the son of Joseph and Mary -- hence, younger than Jesus.
Jesus' brother Jude had children and grandchildren, and like James before, Jude's grandson Judah (called Judah Kyriakos, meaning "Judah of the Lord's house/family") was the last Jewish bishop of Jerusalem.
How do those that do not believe that Jesus had brothers deal with the finding of James' burial box that says "James, son of Joseph, brother of Jesus"? There is no scientific evidence that contradicts the Bible. There are plenty of contradictions that pertain to traditions (Peter and Mary) and...
His passages on John the Baptist and on Jesus' brother James are sympathetic. He was a Galilean who was at least ambivalent about revolting against Rome (he surrendered and became an opponent of the revolt), and he says in his autobiography that he had been baptized by a hermit who lived in the wilderness named Banus.
It also says that Joseph was told not to sleep with Mary UNTIL JESUS WAS BORN. It did not say, never sleep with Mary. Doesn't Scripture tell wives and husbands not to keep sexual relations from each other, that that was sinful? So, wouldn't it be sinful for Mary to have been a PV?

Psalm 69:8 "I am a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my own mother's sons;" That is an excellent prophecy from the Old Testament. I did not know it was there and thanks for bringing that to our attention. I could say the same thing about myself and be accurate WRT family...
Provide links of reformers, and earlier Christians, who taught that Mary had other children. I would ask the question not about or from early Christians but show me in the Bible where it says that Mary did or did not have any other children. I have provided the verses that says she did...
No one is stopping you, or even asking you to, but don't pronounce anything as absolute truth, with out absolute proof. Doesn't this indict all Christians for accepting certain things as matters of faith? Isn't it possible for reasonable minds to differ even on the quesiton of the existence...
1 John 3:15 King James Version (KJV) 15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Whoever hates his brother which is in the image of Christ has the spirit of him who murdered Christ, the old man: and no murderer has the Spirit of Jesus in him. Genesis 9:6 King James Version (KJV)
