Hello I am a young wood worker looking for some advice from the "Pro's". I am extremely interested in wood turning and am hoping to purchase a lathe in the next couple weeks. I am looking at a 12 In. X 33-3/8 In. 3/4 HP Wood Lathe With Reversible Head from Harbor Freight on the account that craigslist didn't have any promising lathes on the ...

I wouldnt say Im settling. Im currently turning on the HF mini. The Nova lathe is a HUGE upgrade and gets very good reviews. Theres multiple owners right here at WWT and they have no complaints. By dream lathe, I meant that its way more lathe than Ill ever need and its waaaay over budget at $4000 compared to $900 for the Nova.

@gmercer_48083 (Gary) is considering a small, budget wood lathe. He asked about a chuck and probably is not interested in one that weighs more than 100 pounds. Here are my responses: The Harbor Freight lathe looks identical to the Excelsior lathes that I have seen. I know several people who have the Excelsior lathes, and they are all pleased ...

Buying a low cost lathe Dear Okiebugg, Under normal circumstances, I would agree with your strategy to buy a good product initially. In this case, however, I had no experience as a turner, except watching demonstrations of what looked to be fun. So I bought the Harbor Freight mini-lathe for $200 rather than the Jet for $400.

  6. Tool rest for 12" Harbor Freight lathe? - Woodworking Talk

    1) enlarge the hole in the banjo to 1", which would mean I can't use the tool rest I already have. 2) remove enough material from the 1" post to fit into the 25mm banjo hole. 3) purchase a banjo and tool rests that are 1". Options 1 and 3 would require purchasing two tool rests instead of just the one curved one.

Just got a new Central Machinery 10X18 wood lathe from Harbor Freight. It's an MT2 taper and looks like the head stock chuck is 1" 8TPI. Can someone confirm this. It may be 7/8 because I took the measurements from o.d. of the threads. I want to purchase a new adjustable chuck and I know they aren't all the same thickness and thread diameter.

Proper Pen Mandrel for Harbor Freight Lathe. Hello, I'm real new to wood working. Picked up an inexpensive lathe at Harbor Freight, which seems to work just fine. But I'd like to turn some pens and am unclear as to the best mandrel to buy for this. Apparently this lathe is unusual in that it does not have a Morse Taper at the head, but does at ...
