In the mid-1960s, to defeat the advantage of the recently introduced computers for the then popular rally racing in the Midwest, competition lag times in a few events were given in centids (1 ⁄ 100 day, 864 seconds, 14.4 minutes), millids (1 ⁄ 1,000 day, 86.4 seconds), and centims (1 ⁄ 100 minute, 0.6 seconds) the latter two looking and ...
This gave greater depth, but was a non-discriminate mode. It worked best at lower frequencies than those used before, and frequencies of 3 to 20 kHz were found to produce the best results. Many detectors in the 1970s had a switch which enabled the user to switch between the discriminate mode and the non-discriminate mode.
To distinguish flight levels in feet, flight levels are read without "flight level", e.g. "one two thousand six hundred metres" or for 12,600 m (Chinese only available in Chinese airspace). To distinguish altitude from flight level, "on standard" or "on QNH" would be added during initial clearance, such as "climb 4,800 metres on standard" or ...
The inside of the MiniBooNE neutrino detector. A neutrino detector [1] is a physics apparatus which is designed to study neutrinos.Because neutrinos only weakly interact with other particles of matter, neutrino detectors must be very large to detect a significant number of neutrinos.
For a continuous beam of ions (assumed to be singly charged) or electrons, the total number N hitting the cup per unit time (in seconds) is = where I is the measured current (in amperes) and e is the elementary charge (1.60 × 10 −19 C).
The facility is housed at the previous Homestake Gold Mine, a deep underground gold mine founded during the Black Hills Gold Rush in 1876. In the late 1960s, the mine hosted the Homestake experiment. The operation, also known as the Davis experiment, allowed Raymond Davis, Jr. to measure the flux of solar neutrinos directly. [15]
Degrees, therefore, are subdivided as follows: 360 degrees (°) in a full circle; 60 arc-minutes (′) in one degree; 60 arc-seconds (″) in one arc-minute; To put this in perspective, the full Moon as viewed from Earth is about 1 ⁄ 2 °, or 30 ′ (or 1800″). The Moon's motion across the sky can be measured in angular size: approximately ...
Crews are working on the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment. The Sanford Underground Research Facility makes use of, and is extending, the facilities of the Homestake Mine (South Dakota), which ceased operations at the end of 2001, to accommodate the far detector modules. Excavation of the DUNE far detector cavities began on July 21, 2017.
