The Government of South Africa, or South African Government, is the national government of the Republic of South Africa, a parliamentary republic with a three-tier system of government and an independent judiciary, operating in a parliamentary system. Legislative authority is held by the Parliament of South Africa.
The State Security Agency (SSA) is the department of the South African government with overall responsibility for civilian intelligence operations. It was created in October 2009 to incorporate the formerly separate National Intelligence Agency, South African Secret Service, South African National Academy of Intelligence, National Communications Centre, and COMSEC.
In 1931, the Statute of Westminster gave South Africa full sovereignty in regards to external affairs, and confirmed by the Status of the Union Act, 1934. [2] In 1955, a separate department was created, the Department of External Affairs with its own minister. [3]
