Mayweather confirmed his retirement in the ring [31], and in November the WBC declared both his welterweight and super welterweight titles vacant. The latter of which Mayweather had failed to defend since September 2014 (and had not fought at the weight since September 2013). [32] This marked Mayweather 26th and final world title bout.
From round one, Mayweather used his speed, skills and accurate right hand to tag Ortiz repeatedly. Mayweather seemed in control through the first three rounds (judges scores: 30–27, 30–27, 29–28 for Mayweather), but in the fourth round, Ortiz found some success, landing a few shots and stinging Mayweather before backing him into the corner.
Mayweather hurt his left hand at the end of the ninth round but remained comfortable throughout the rest of the fight, winning via unanimous decision 117–111, 118–110, and 120–108. Mayweather dominated the fight, landing an impressive 56% [232/410] punches thrown, compared to Berto's underwhelming number of 17% [83/495] punches landed.
