The Texas Library Association (TLA) is a charitable non-profit group that promotes libraries in Texas. It was founded on June 9, 1902. [ 1 ] TLA is affiliated with the American Library Association (ALA) and has more than 6,000 members made up of librarians and library workers from academic, public, school and special libraries.

The current Texas State Librarian is Gloria Meraz, appointed by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission on August 27, 2021. Meraz is the first person of color and first Hispanic woman to serve as State Librarian of Texas since the position was created in 1909. She succeeded previous Texas State Librarian, Mark Smith. [3]
During the initial years of the library's operation, Cooke County Representative George W. Dayton and Lillian Gunter began crafting the Texas County Library Law in 1915. That same year at the October, 1915 Texas Library Association conference in San Antonio, Texas-president of the association Elizabeth West "paid tribute to Miss Gunter". [10]
In 2014, the Midland Centennial Library won the American Library Association and the International Interior Design Association (ALA/IIDA) Library Interior Design Award for Public Libraries over 30,000 sq. ft. [11] Also in 2014, John Trischitti III, the Director of the Midland Public Library, won Librarian of the Year from the Texas Library Association. [12]
