Payson is a city in Utah County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Provo – Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area . The population was 21,101 at the 2020 census .

The facility is named after Chief Peteetneet, the indigenous clan leader of a Tumpanawach Ute band, and a monument of him stands at the front of Center. The building houses a Daughters of the Utah Pioneers museum of pioneer artifacts, the Payson Historical Society, and the Peteetneet Arts Council as well as many community art and dance classes and events.
Much of Spring Lake consists of farms and ranches, with many people owning horses, cattle, and raising alfalfa and hay for their animals. Being located between Payson and Santaquin, the rural area may give way to more homes in the coming years, but as there is no city water for many, wells are needed which place a limit of one house per 5.25 acres (21,200 m 2) of land.
The student body comes from Payson, as well as from a number of nearby communities such as Santaquin, Goshen, Genola, and Elberta. [4] The current principal is Jesse Sorenson. [5] The school's mascot is the Lions, named in support for the local Lions Club in 1928. [6] [7] Payson High is notable for its use in the popular 1984 film Footloose. [8]
State Route 178 was added to the state highway system in 2000 in exchange for transferring ownership of the western portion of SR-147 from the Utah Department of Transportation to the city of Payson, as SR-178 connected to Interstate 15 and would be a more appropriate road for the state highway system.
