Arenal Volcano National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Volcán Arenal) is a Costa Rican national park in the central part of the country, part of the Arenal Huetar Norte Conservation Area. The park encompasses the Arenal Volcano , the most active in the country, which was believed to be dormant until a major eruption in 1968.
The volcano is located at the center of Arenal Volcano National Park in the northern zone of the country, 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) southwest of the La Fortuna district in San Carlos (canton), Costa Rica. [5] Arenal Volcano area is an important watershed for the Arenal Lake Reservoir. The reservoir's water is used for hydroelectric power. It is ...
There are 51 cabanas at Volcano Bay, 10 of which are "tower units," meaning there are two cabanas stacked on top of each other. Standard cabanas hold up to six people, while the two family suites ...
Tenorio Volcano National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Volcán Tenorio) is a national park in the northern part of Costa Rica, which forms part of the Arenal Tempisque Conservation Area. The jewel of the national park is the Tenorio Volcano , from which it derives its name.
It erupted most recently in June 2021. The volcano has many fumaroles and hot springs on its slopes. It is formed by felsic lava. Rincón de la Vieja is one of six active Costa Rican volcanoes: the others are Poás, Irazú, Miravalles, Arenal, and Turrialba. As of 2021, only Rincón de la Vieja, Turrialba and Poás are considered active.
The volcano is named after its canton, Turrialba, in Costa Rica's Cartago Province. There is no clear consensus on the origin of the name Turrialba, but historians disagree with attempts to attribute the name to the patronym Torrealba (from Aragon in Spain ) or from the Latin Turris alba (white tower).
The site contains the Miravalles Volcano, which is still active although the last recorded eruption was only of steam vents in 1946. On 5 June 2019, it was created by allocating 43 square kilometres (17 sq mi) from Miravalles Protected Zone as declared by Executive Decree 41768-MINAE, [ 1 ] it became the twenty ninth national park of Costa Rica.
