New York State Route 6N (NY 6N) is a 5.07-mile (8.16 km) alternate route of US 6 through the towns of Yorktown, Westchester County, and Carmel, Putnam County. The spur leaves US 6 in the hamlet of Jefferson Valley and rejoins it in the hamlet of Mahopac. NY 6N follows a more northerly route than US 6 in order to serve Mahopac Falls. [1]

Until 1962, when NYC's West Shore Railroad was upgraded, the Putnam served oversize freight trains, due to the lack of tunnels on the line. Tracks between East View and Lake Mahopac were removed in 1962.
Built by the New York and Mahopac Railroad in 1871, the Lake Mahopac Branch diverges from the Harlem Line north of Goldens Bridge and merged with the now-defunct Putnam Division south of Mahopac. Known to some residents of Mahopac as the "Golden’s Bridge Branch". The entire branch was abandoned on April 2, 1959. [149]
