The Blue Ridge Mountains are a physiographic province of the larger Appalachian Highlands range. The mountain range is located in the Eastern United States and extends 550 miles southwest from southern Pennsylvania through Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. The summit falls within Cherokee County, although the majority of the mountain range trails into Bartow County including other peaks of Little Pine Log Mountain, Bear Mountain and Hanging Mountain. Pine Log and these other summits within its range are the last mountains over 2,000 feet (600 m) in the Appalachians of north Georgia .

The highest altitudes in all three of these west Georgia counties can be found along the range. [1] The Pine Mountain Range is part of a larger geological feature known as the Pine Mountain terrane, [2] which extends into eastern Alabama. The ridge in Georgia exceeds 1,100 feet (340 m) in elevation for a distance of about 20 miles (32 km).
