Bethany is a city in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States, and a part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. Bethany has a population of 20,831 at the 2020 census , a 9.3% increase from 2010. The community was founded in 1909 by followers of the Church of the Nazarene from Oklahoma City.
In 1909, the school was renamed "Oklahoma Holiness College" [3] and new property was purchased to the west of Oklahoma City in Bethany. [4] That same year the surrounding holiness community became Nazarene and, as its church base swelled, the school's financial problems "proved less threatening than those at other institutions". [5]
In 2004 Mount Vernon Nazarene University named its new student union the William and Evelyn Prince Student Union. [3] Evelyn died August 22, 2006. Prince died December 24, 2012. Funeral services held at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene in Bethany Oklahoma with interment in Bethany Cemetery, Bethany Oklahoma.
The school then became one of the first three "official" Nazarene educational institutions in 1908, [4] supported by the Dallas District Church of the Nazarene, and the name was changed to Peniel College. [6] In 1920, the college merged with Oklahoma Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma, which was then renamed "Bethany-Peniel College". [5]
Prior to his election as general superintendent, Busic served as the president of the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. [1] He has also served as the senior pastor of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene (Bethany, OK), Central Church of the Nazarene (Lenexa, KS), and Vineyard Community Church of the Nazarene (Livermore, CA).

Owens was a professor at Korea Nazarene Theological College, Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma, and at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. Owens pastored Nazarene churches in Fairbury, Nebraska (1952–1954) and Bethany, Oklahoma, where he was the pioneer pastor of the Lake Overholser Church (1968–1969).
