Oakfield Township is a civil township of Kent County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 6,107 at the 2020 census . [ 3 ] It is part of the Grand Rapids metropolitan area and is located about 20 miles (32 km) northeast of the city of Grand Rapids .

US 131 runs south–north through the western portion of the township.; M-44 (Beltline Avenue) runs south–north through the eastern portion of the township. M-44 also contains a connector route within the community that links it to Interstate 96 to the south in Grand Rapids.

The area was first settled by Marlin Hunter, who settled along the Rogue River in 1842. By 1845, several other families arrived and settled the community under the name Laphamville, and the community received a post office under that name.
