The film is a biography of popular English composer Tom Barrett known by his stage name Leslie Stuart, who rose to fame through performances of his songs by the tenor Ellaline Terriss. The film is told in flashback with an elderly Barrett listening to a band playing his tunes played by a band on a pier.
