Alpena County (/ æ l ˈ p iː n ə / al-PEE-nə) is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the population was 28,907. [2] The county seat is Alpena. [3] It is considered to be part of Northern Michigan. Alpena County comprises the Alpena, MI Micropolitan Statistical Area.
The Luce County Sheriff's House and Jail was built in 1894, only 12 years after the founding of Newberry and 7 years after the organization of Luce County. The opulent structure, built to complement the nearby now-demolished courthouse, reflected the prosperity of the Victorian era community.

There are no incorporated municipalities in the township. The city of Alpena is a few miles east of the northeast corner of the township. The Alpena County Regional Airport is partially within the township. Dafoe was an unincorporated community centered on a sawmill that also had a station on the Detroit & Mackinaw Railroad. [4]
