Gregg County is a county located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Texas.As of the 2020 census, its population was 124,239. [2] Its county seat is Longview. [3] The county is named after John Gregg, a Confederate general killed in action during the American Civil War.

Longview is a city in, and county seat of, Gregg County, Texas, United States. Longview is located in East Texas, where Interstate 20 and U.S. highways 80 and 259 converge just north of the Sabine River. According to the 2020 U.S. census, the city had a population of 81,638. [7]

Clarksville City is located in northwestern Gregg County along U.S. Route 80, 10 miles (16 km) west of Longview and 2.5 miles (4.0 km) east of Gladewater. The city is bordered by Gladewater to the west, Warren City to the northwest, and White Oak to the east. Lake Deverina on Campbell Creek is in the southern part of Clarksville City.
Gladewater was founded by the Texas and Pacific Railway Company in 1873 on land bought from Jarrett Dean and Anderson White. A community called St. Clair, 2 miles (3 km) to the east, moved to Gladewater when the railroad announced that the only mail stop in the area would be there; residents from Point Pleasant, also bypassed by the railroad, moved to Gladewater.
Kilgore was founded in 1872 when the International–Great Northern Railroad completed the initial phase of rail line between Palestine and Longview.The rail company chose to bypass New Danville, a small community about 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Longview, in lieu of a new townsite platted on 174 acres (0.70 km 2) sold to the railroad by Constantine Buckley Kilgore, the town's namesake.
