Laurence Dominic (Reed Diamond), [3] head of security at the Dollhouse during most of the first season, takes his job very seriously, but doesn't think very highly of the Dolls themselves, viewing them more as robots than humans. He attempts to kill Echo, and also suggests she be retired as an Active, and put into "the Attic".
Echo is an Active, a member of the elite and secretive Dollhouse, an agency that has revolutionized memory-science. The Actives (colloquially known as "dolls") are individuals whose original personality and memory has been completely wiped clean, allowing the programmers of the Dollhouse to "imprint" them with entirely new personalities tailor-made to fit a client's needs.
"Epitaph Two: Return" is the 13th episode of the second season, the show's 26th episode overall and the series finale of the American science fiction television series Dollhouse.
