Hephzibah (/ ˈ h ɛ p z ɪ b ə /) is a city in southern Richmond County, in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is part of the Augusta metropolitan area as well as the Central Savannah River Area . The population was 4,011 at the 2010 census, [ 2 ] and 3,830 in 2020.

A post office called Mulberry was established in 1838, and remained in operation until 1914. [2] The community was named for mulberry trees near the original town site. [ 3 ]

Bellevue, originally a 1,200-acre (490 ha) plantation estate, was established in 1853 by Benjamin Harvey Hill, one of Georgia's leading politicians of the antebellum and Civil War era. Its architect is only known by his last name, Taylor, and is one Georgia's finest example of antebellum Greek Revival architecture.
It was deemed notable as "an outstanding example of early rural Georgia architecture" and for its age. A related property is the Cabiness-Hunt House, already listed on the National Register, located about 2 miles west. [2] In 1975 the house had been unoccupied for several years, but Cabaniss descendants had plans for renovations. [2]
The school was established October 1860 by the Hephzibah Baptist Association and held its first session in temporary buildings until the first permanent building was completed in 1862. Hephzibah High is the second oldest high school in Richmond County. The Baptist Association, took their name, Hephzibah from Isaiah 62:4.
