State Route 77 (SR 77) is a 253.93-mile (408.66-kilometre) long state highway in Arizona that traverses much of the state's length, stretching from its southern terminus at a junction with I-10 in Tucson to its northern terminus with BIA Route 6 at the Navajo Nation boundary just north of I-40.
The highway has major junctions with U.S. Route 93 (US 93; the main highway connecting Phoenix and Las Vegas, Nevada) in Kingman and again approximately 22 miles (35 km) to the east and I-17 (the freeway linking Phoenix to northern Arizona) in Flagstaff. For the majority of its routing through Arizona, I-40 follows the historic alignment of US 66.
Arizona section of the highway was designated as SR 78 on February 17, 1959, [5] and the New Mexico section was designated along its current route in the mid-1930s as New Mexico State Road 78. [ 6 ] By 1938, what would eventually become SR 78 on the Arizona side was still just a gravel road as were many roads in the area including US 666. [ 7 ]

Douglas DC-3 and Convair 340 prop aircraft as well as Convair 580 turboprops were operated on flights to Phoenix as well as direct, no change of plane service to Denver via Gallup, New Mexico, Farmington, New Mexico and Durango, Colorado.
In central Arizona, the need for a north–south U.S. Highway was largely superseded by the completion of I-17, which now carries the bulk of the traffic and all of the heavy trucks along this north–south corridor. I-17 connects I-40 in Flagstaff with I-10 in Phoenix, Arizona, along a very hilly route that also passes through the Verde Valley.

SR 89A Spur was originally established on July 16, 2004, over a small section of Fain Road immediately east of the intersection with SR 89A proper.
